40 or Older? What the heck should we wear?

If you’re anything like me you wake up one day, look in your closet and think, “What the heck am I supposed to wear now that I’m older?”  I knew two things that day, I didn’t want to look like I was trying to be 20 again and I didn’t want to dress like I was older than was I was.    After I did some research, this is what I discovered, I must say that I have been going by this for the last seven years and it has been a life saver.

When dressing in your 40s and beyond, focus on quality, comfort, and timeless pieces that flatter your body type, while embracing personal style and experimenting with trends. Remember that we all have different body types and what might work for your best friend may not work for you.

Let’s dig in deeper:

  • Well-fitting jeans are important.  Look for high-quality denim that's both comfortable and flattering.
  • Purchasing a crisp white shirt is an essential wardrobe staple.
  • You can never go wrong with a classic blazer. A fitted blazer is timeless and versatile. Remember you can wear blazers with jeans or pants. Dressing it up or down can get you through many different events.
  • Simple dresses and skirts are great to wear, and you should consider a mix of styles that will suit your preferences.
  • Don’t forget sweaters and cardigans.  Choose quality materials and styles that complement your body type.

How to embrace personal style:

  • Experiment with bold prints, bright colors, and trendy accessories. This is a great way to add personality to your outfits.
  • Mix and match different textures and fabrics creating unique and personalized looks. If you have questions on this one, I highly recommend searching Pinterest for some examples.
  • Consider your body type and choose clothing that flatters your silhouette and makes you feel confident.  Remember a confident woman is a beautiful woman.
  • Don't be afraid to try new things. Exploring different styles and trends to see what you enjoy can be a lot of fun. See what styles and colors you enjoy and incorporate them into your wardrobe.  Don't be afraid to stand out: Express your personality through your clothing choices.

Now let’s talk about comfort and fit:

  • Ensure clothes fit well. You should avoid clothes that are too tight or too loose.
  • Remember to choose comfortable fabrics.  Opt for materials that feel good against your skin.
  • When paying attention to details consider the length of sleeves, hemline, and neckline.  Ask yourself, what do I feel most comfortable in?

Need to purchase something for a special occasion?  Consider the following:

  • Classic pieces like blazers, pantsuits, and well-fitting dresses can be a great choice.  A timeless black dress or a stylish jumpsuit paired with a blazer or leather jacket can make for an elegant date outfit.  Always remember to pair it with a cute pair of shoes and some accessories.

I hope this helps if you have been wondering what the heck I should be wearing now that I’m getting older. The biggest takeaway I want to stress is to wear what makes you feel confident. Like I said earlier, a confident woman is a beautiful woman.

Your Friend,

Becky
