What Colors Even Look Good On Me???

What Colors Even Look Good On Me???

If you’re a woman trying to figure out which colors look best on you, let me say that you are not alone! I have asked myself this question so many times and just when I think I have it, I buy a certain color and find out, (normally from my children) that it is definitely NOT my color. Then I am faced with the daunting question of do I return it or just say forget it and throw it into the donation pile.  I am finely sick and tired of this continuous cycle, so I have dug into finding out once and for all what colors look good on me.  I have found eight different ways to see what is going to look good and I am going to share them with you. Let’s jump in!

1. Identify Your Skin Undertone

Your undertone is the key to choosing colors that naturally enhance your complexion. There are three main types:

  • Cool undertones (pink, blue, or red hues): Look best in jewel tones like sapphire blue, emerald green, cool purples, crisp whites, and silver jewelry.
  • Warm undertones (golden, peachy, or yellow hues): Glow in earthy colors like mustard, warm reds, olive green, chocolate brown, and gold jewelry.
  • Neutral undertones (a mix of both cool and warm): Can wear both cool and warm tones, plus muted shades like dusty rose, taupe, and soft blues.

2. Use the Vein Test

Look at the veins on your wrist in natural light:

  • Bluish veins? You likely have cool undertones.
  • Greenish veins? You probably have warm undertones.
  • A mix of both? You might be neutral.

3. Consider Your Natural Hair & Eye Color

  • High contrast (dark hair, light skin, or vibrant eyes)? Bold, saturated colors suit you.
  • Low contrast (softer hair, similar skin tone, light eyes)? Softer, muted colors are more flattering.

4. Try the "Silver vs. Gold" Test

Hold up a silver fabric and a gold fabric near your face. Which one makes your skin look more radiant?

  • Silver = Cool undertones
  • Gold = Warm undertones

5. Know Your Best Neutrals

Even if you love color, knowing your go-to neutral shades helps:

  • Cool tones: Charcoal gray, true white, navy.
  • Warm tones: Camel, ivory, warm browns.
  • Neutral tones: Taupe, soft gray, beige.

6. Consider Seasonal Color Analysis

Some people categorize colors into seasons (Winter, Summer, Autumn, Spring) based on undertones and contrast. You can find quizzes online or work with a stylist to figure out if you’re a Cool Summer, Warm Autumn, etc.

7. Test Colors Near Your Face

Try draping different colors near your face (without makeup) and see which ones make your skin glow, eyes pop, and fine lines soften versus which ones make you look washed out.

8. Wear What Makes You Feel Confident

At the end of the day, fashion rules are just guidelines! If you love a color that "isn't your best," wear it in accessories, skirts, or shoes instead of near your face.

If you are still sitting there thinking, “I still don’t know”, then here are four online tests to consider taking to help yourself further.

To piggyback off from number eight, I believe confidence is one of the most powerful qualities a woman can have. It shapes how we see ourselves and how the world sees us. When a woman is confident, she carries herself with grace, speaks with conviction, and embraces her strengths without apology. Confidence allows us to take risks, set boundaries, and pursue our dreams without fear of judgment. It isn’t about being perfect, it’s about believing in our worth, no matter what the situation. When a woman is confident, she inspires others and creates a presence that commands respect. True beauty isn’t just in appearance, it’s in the way we own who we are.

One thing I always say is that a confident woman is a beautiful woman!

I hope this has helped you in some small way and I hope you leave here knowing that you are beautiful and worth feeling confident about yourself.

Your Friend,

Becky Brooks
